THE PLIGHT OF A PENGUIN

Last week I returned to my desk and found a creature bound and gagged in my chair. Meet Henry. He was unceremoniously kidnapped from Marketing and stashed in Web Ops. Hmm. I am happy to report that Henry's time in Web Ops has been quite comfortable. Removed from all the ties that bound, he is happily keeping C's seat warm while she is on vacation. We're even teaching him a bit of coding. Tougher to design with flippers, it turns out then code. Go Figure. But mostly he just hums wee penguin tunes. His bag is packed and whenever he gets rescued, he's ready.

But we are happy to keep him until such time as that arises.

why hello. who are you?

we promise to take good care of him

really good care.

WANTED

So maybe beer on a Monday night, is a faux pas. Whatever, how often do the planets align that: I get out of work on time & Sparkles happens to be driving home from San Diego at the same time - which puts her at my place when I pull up? I also happen to have beer in the house which is rare. Thus you see, it was kismet.

A few beers and an episode of Gossip Girl later, I have come to the conclusion that Chuck Bass is my future husband (what!?) toast is the perfect food and myspace is the devil. Also fake eyelashes & leather jackets with hoods rule. So I have plans, like a birthday in Brazil or Germany - since 30 is kinda huge, and that maybe not everything needs a plan.

Maybe I have no right to ask the questions plaguing my head, or stressing over a dream that will never be reality. But if I didn't I wouldn't be me. And I like this girl, who can transform into a party ready outfit in 7 minutes flat (including hair) and show up on your door step ready to go. The very same girl can abandon the party for a night in, in 30 seconds flat if you look at her and say, "You know you look beautiful. That is not anything new, I just thought I should remind you. I don't say it enough." Really? That kind of tops the night a guy I didn't really like said, "You are breath taking". Um, check please.

ps - Sparkles, to next year! And every year after. I love you girl!! Myspace is the devil.

NOT THAT I CLAIM TO BE

I've been a lazy blogger lately. I am also totally okay with that. I am getting in tune with all the ebbing and flowing that happens in life and trying to break my own conventions that dictate a rigid set of rules. The letting go is not easy, but I am learning that the payoff can be huge. Today I got to wander around one of my favorite LA only places, experience the first rain of the season, hang out with a fellow artist and a 14 year old. Then I got chauffeured home and fit in a run to the bank, laundry, cooking (whee! she's loose in the kitchen) and some great after-a-late-dinner-conversation. None of this was planned. It just unfolded.

Inspired by the morning and the light, I shot portraits today. Not anything structured, just point and click with my tiny digital. After uploading the days work, I saw that I had captured some rare moments. I wish I could shoot everyone in my life the way I did today. My subjects let me film them unfiltered. They did not pose. I did not ask to snap their photo. And everything went off without a hitch. It was lovely and intensely personal.

More of this please.
