LOVE AND HAPPINESS - NO COINCIDENCE

It's funny how life works if you're paying attention. How many episodes of Sex and the City have we seen? Inevitably there are a few scenes that stay with us. I was discussing the show today with a coworker and I recounted how painful it is to watch Carrie sometimes. Instantly I conjure up the rainy street where Carrie takes shelter under an awning with a stranger and proceeds to share with him how if this were a French movie they would fall in love and be married.

I remember the first time I saw this I cringed, I squirmed for her. I hid my face and prayed for her to stop. For the love of mankind, stop! Tonight that exact episode came on the TV. I watched the opneing credits roll and the title come up (I love TV shows that title each episode), and I knew it was the one. I waited for the scene. There it was, a closed museum, an unexpected shower, refuge under that awning. Yet somehow tonight it wasn't so hard to watch. I gathered something else altogether.

I cruised over to youtube and put on Al Green. I sat on my couch and contemplated life in a great city. How that city can truly be your best friend. I may not have New York, but I have Los Angeles, and let me say she's pretty wonderful. Variegated, harsh and honest, she's the best place I've been. Sure we have our moments, but at the end of the day, you're everything to me. Sing it Al.
