If I could make a soundtrack to my life, each time I got afraid of what comes next, I would have this play. Because I would then suddenly, have the urge to go put on some make-up and spend a little cash (gads!) on something that makes me feel alive and gets my ass out in public.
* being on vacation means I have no idea what day it is, and I missed Friday. how cool!

The best part of being unemployed? You can travel in the middle of the week, on a whim! You can also find yourself traveling (unexpectedly) when your blog buddies (whom you adore and envy - in a good way - and think are awesome girlie role models) are doing so as well. And while my little trips may not be to Vietnam or St. Barths, I am thinking that just the simple fact that I am out of the house, means I am on the right track.
Leap and the net will appear. Or so I have been told. So here I am -- leaping.

At the end of yesterday's all day fashion adventure, someone said, "Hey. You got some sun." Cool, I thought, sunkissed. Until I got home and it looked like I had MADE OUT with Mr. Sun. What had happened? What was this strange sun burn I was sporting?
At several points yesterday I applied sun block. I am kind of a freak about sun exposure. So what went wrong, I wondered as I sipped a glass of wine and soaked in the bath tub. That shit can expire!! Like, within a year. Now, is this more of that knowledge (like offering your unsolicited opinion) that everyone else knows but somehow I missed?
Anyhow kids, as you run along into the sun shine, BUY NEW SUN SCREEN. Trust me, your forearms will thank you.

Since school is officially out for the summer over here, I thought a seasonal change for the blog was in order. Enjoy the juicy colors of summer!

Yesterday was a closed set, but I had to sneak some photos of the footware!! I cannot even believe who all I got to hangout with, Lanvin, Prada, Rick Owens, Zac Posen, the spread was amazing. I have never seen so much good stuff in one place.
It was an interesting 12 hours. I unpacked, hangered and organized trunks and duffel bags until long after I lost count. Keep Paris separated! Where's the shipment from Milan? Who's doing accessories - because each one of these rings is 15,000.00!
Then of course there was the talent. There was the painfully thin Hollywood actress with the very memorable voice who needed a tampon, and brought her own shoes (which I thought was very cool, since they were fantastic and we were running low on woman's footware). A sprinkling of models floated around like unsettled dust. The conversations I over heard between them, were snippets from the life of the insanely beautiful. Stories about how his sister went to Thailand on a whim, met a guy and fell in love. They are apparently getting married and moving to South Africa next week, to I don't know, surf or something. Um, ok. Words however are not the only area where the insanely beautiful differ from the rest of us. While I was lacing up these House of Holland booties on one of the girls I was face to face with her legs. Her skinny little, hairy legs. That's right, she came to a photo shoot looking like an Amazonian. Now, I only know myself, but if I had a photo shoot, I would spend the whole night beforehand plucking, picking, trimming and shaving.
Then there were the Rockers. The aging ones had their super young girlfriends in tow. The single guys made good conversation and took better care of themselves. All wanted to be dressed. I have never seen that many men, need that much help to pick an outfit. The last to arrive was the main event. Long dark hair, covered in art, tiny little rocker pants, large combat boots, I swear he has a smaller waist than I do. A part of his body he was more than happy to show off. Actually he ran around most of the day undressed. It was um, entertaining.
The stylist we worked with is a friendly acquaintance of mine (how I got the gig), and now I can see why she is so sought after. Long after I would have told the nearly naked rocker with a huge ego and no self confidence to fu*king get a grip, she patiently showed him the Galliano hood again and said for the 200th time, no those pants do not make you look fat. She has the patience of a saint. The good news is that when he needed a 4th change and no one else was around to help, I got to create his 4th look! Yes, me! And while it was soooo much fun to put him in this awesome Thom Browne trench and score this HUGE moonstone and black diamond ring for his digits, dealing with the rest of it is for the birds.
Man is it fun to try on careers! So while I don't think assisting is my next dream, I would love to be invited to be a guest stylist for L'Uomo Vogue any day!

Best. Sushi. Ever.
Sit at the bar. Put yourself in Chef Yama's impeccable hands. Relax. Meet your neighbors. Delight at the descriptions the waitress gives for each dish. Order the perfect martini. Eat your little brains out!! Yay!

I love the word FROCK.
It is reminiscent of ladies who have custom tailored outfits and travel by boat. After creating my fabulous European apartment, I had to build a closet to go with it! Obviously this season I am rolling in grey and yellow, but the little black jacket makes a snappy return, as do pops of color for cocktail dresses.

Even with the holiday it has been a mighty productive few days. Things (all kinds of things) are rolling my way and keeping daily life interesting. On Sat. I will be assisting on a photo shoot for l'uomo Vogue (Italian Men's Vogue)!! How's that for fabulous!?
I can't say who it is with - but it's big, like ROCK big. And unpaid, because, when does the fashion industry pay anyone to do anything? Which right now, is just fine. Because that means I am beholden to no one and getting to test drive candidates for the next chapter of my life.
More soon I am sure!!

I feel like I am standing knee deep in the batter, clutching a spoon.
All around me things continue to unravel, change and surprise me. Friday after the funeral we had a late family dinner and like a scene from a movie, the waiter dumped an entire bowl of soup down my back and shoulder and into my purse. Then a second waiter brought out desserts for the table. He grinned when he laid down one spoon for me and my cousin and winked while proudly expounding that we could share...! I am not sure if I looked horrified or just burst out laughing, but I finally choked out that this was my cousin. My soup, dessert and drinks were comped.
This same cousin and I had dinner last night since he is still in town and Friday was the first time we had met! Again last night over the best sushi I have ever had (photos to come!), people thought we were romantically linked. What?! I happily report that he is contentedly married with 2 kids in St. Louis, MI.
And finally, (here's to hoping that yesterday was the end of one super crazy week) my ex-boss ran into my ex-boyfriend at a Memorial Day BBQ. They do not run in the same circles. They live on opposite sides of the city. She reported that he looked like he thought this party was supposed to be hipper. Yup, sounds like him.
